Indo Hap Ki Do as envisioned by its founder Tarun Roy Choudhury, is not only the synthesis of the founder’s martial training, but also the expression of his personal philosophy of honesty, loyalty and respect. He had learnt Hapkido from world famous masters and has remained associated with this art for the last 40 years. Additionally, Master Tarun Roy Choudhury studied Tae Kwon Do, Aikido and Lethwei (Burmese Boxing). Using his vast knowledge and understanding of different fighting styles, he created Indo Hap Ki Do, aiming to infuse in its students a strong sense of discipline and character.
Dojunim Tarun Roy Choudhury was born in Rangoon, Burma (Myanmar) in 1956. His introduction into world of Martial Arts started at the tender age of six with Lethwei (Burmese Boxing). Over the years – he has travelled the world, coming in contact with various cultures and their uniqueness. He went to Korea and Japan where he learned Tae Kwon Do and Aikido respectively. He settled down in Germany, where he studied Hapkido. He returned to India with the mission of passing on his immense knowledge and experience to his Indian students and further develop the martial art in an Indian context.
